Compliance training is the structured process of equipping your team with the knowledge, skills, and awareness they need to execute your compliance program in practice, not just understand it in theory.

Examiners evaluate training as a core pillar of your Compliance Management System (CMS) because it’s the primary mechanism for translating policies and controls into consistent, day-to-day behavior across your organization.

Off-the-shelf training modules, even from reputable providers, are rarely sufficient on their own. They cover general concepts but don’t address the specific products, regulations, and risk profile that are unique to your business. Examiners look for evidence that your training is customized to your organization, that it includes defined roles and responsibilities so the right people receive the right content, and that you measure whether training actually changes behavior rather than just tracking completion rates.

Training is also one of the most common corrective actions when issues or complaints point to human error. But that corrective action only holds up if your training program is designed to close the specific gap, not just check a box.

A defensible training program documents what was taught, who received it, how effectiveness was measured, and what retraining protocols are triggered when controls fail. For banks, fintechs, and crypto companies, strong training turns compliance from something people are told about into something people know how to do.
